The Energy That Powers Our Planet Powers Our Health Too

Energy Medicine or Energy Therapies are terms being used by a growing number of natural health practitioners. What is this about? How does it work? Is it real?

Well actually, it’s undeniable. The energy that powers our planet powers our health too.

“Scientists have shown that all matter has some magnetic properties. And each of us does emit some strange sort of live magnetic energy field that can be demonstrated with special imaging techniques. This also seems to vary with our state of physical and mental wellbeing, much like the ancient Chinese concept of Qi.
Quoted from Magnet Therapy, The Pain Cure Alternative – A Scientifically Proven Method That Really Works!
by Ron Lawrence MD PhD &Paul Rosch MD FACP &Judith Plowden.

Some vital force powers everything in our universe. Our ancestors recognized this and discovered ways to engage this energy for healing. This vital force is active in all living systems, in our planet Earth, in every plant and animal, in every cell of our body. In the past this energy was too subtle for crude instruments to read, but today we have sensitive technology that can measure this power, this force, this all pervading energy.

The terminology of the ancestors may not be the same as our scientists use today – but it seems we humans from the early times in history and we of the present are acknowledging existence of the same subtle energy and tapping into its benefits. The ancient tribal ways and the new tribal ways are overlapping and integrating more and more as we explore ways to be healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Learning to be in sync with, and to align with this energy may hold the secret of longevity and optimum health.

Electro Magnetic Basics
Whenever there is a flow of electric current a magnetic field forms at right angle to the flow. All magnets have a north pole at one end and a south pole at the other. The terms north and south, negative and positive only relate to direction of the flow of current. Even when a magnet is cut in half, each half into half again, each part still has a north and south pole at either end as the flow of energy direction is the same in each separate piece.

By day the positive polarity of the sun dominates, and by night the negative polarity of planet Earth dominates. The Chinese call this yang and yin energy, day and night energy. Western scientists call it our circadian rhythm. Most people refer to it as our body clock. All recognize it as a natural rhythm of Earth and essential to keep us all healthy and well, a rhythm of expending energy during day time activities and alternating that with rest and sleep at night to regenerate energy and the physical body tissues.

Positive and negative polarity and the ability to attract the opposite is what makes our body systems work, what allows repair to cells. It’s also what makes it possible to power our homes, offices, factories, and our transport systems. It’s what drives our communications, radios, TVs, and computers. It is the basis of what powers and drives our body’s inner life and our outer life style.

Electro Magnetic Diagnostic Tools
Modern medicine uses ECG, Electro Cardiograms, and EEG, Electro Encephalograms, as diagnostic tools. The same measurements can be taken in magnetic values using Magneto Cardiograms and Magnetic Encephalography. MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is in common use today in hospitals and research trials.

So medicine uses both readings of electrical activity and magnet fields of the body and its organs to determine the wellbeing of our brain and organ functions.

Greater use of both these forces can be made to aid healing and maintain health. Electrical currents have been used to heal “un-healable” bone fractures. These are fully documented by the medical researchers involved. Yet this type of investigation has been neglected or derailed in mainstream research as pharmaceutical companies finance only biochemical activities of the body and, understandably, will not support research into natural remedies or natural phenomena for people’s wellbeing.

Governments allow pharmaceutical companies to decide what will be researched and what will not. This is not independent but very biased investigation of methods to keep people healthy. Actually none of the research is to keep people healthy or well, only to keep them going. No pharmaceutical research is aimed at wellness or resolving cause of ailments, only at drug dependency for a lifetime once commenced, in spite of all the known and documented side effects. Most doctors readily submit to and promote that approach. It is a massive industry.

Any discoveries of how to become well, rebuild strength and resilience and stay well comes from lay people, often parents, scientists, and health professionals, who turn away from the standard medical approach, who refuse to see drug dependency as the only answer to maintaining and sustaining life. Doctors who seek wellness for their patients using natural or alternate approaches are often persecuted and prosecuted. But gradually public demand is forcing change on the medical industry.

Change From The Ground Up
All medical drugs, without exception, have side effects. Statistics show that Number 2 cause of death in USA today is the direct result of treatments by a physician and it is expected to reach Number 1 officially in the near future. Some estimate it is already the top cause of death. A statistical study shows “that more than two million American hospitalized patients suffered a serious adverse drug reaction. Over 75% were dose-dependent, which suggests they were due to the inherent toxicity of the drugs rather than to allergic reactions.” No statistics were available on the number of people suffering adverse effects that were not in hospital.

People are turning to all forms of natural therapies, from massage, to acupuncture to chiropractic to kinesiology. Along with natural therapies go diet improvements, supplements and herbs, plus relaxation, meditation and regular exercise, and of course a focus on breathing and water, to aid healing and improve health. The move across to this wholistic approach as a first option to resolving health issues, and away from drugs, has gained momentum.

Negative side effects of drugs are no longer acceptable.

Energy Medicine and Electro magnetic therapies have a growing following and are being sought out as preferable to medical drugs. Energy medicine has gained acceptance through acupuncture, kinesiology, hands on healing such as reiki and other therapies. Electrical devices that read energy imbalances and transmit a frequency for rebalancing are in common use by doctors and specialists in Europe, and magnets are being used also, a modern version of using lodestones in ancient times.

The power to draw out or disperse “evil influences” is being modernized.

Bush Remedy Inspires Cancer Research

Old wives tales, bush remedies and traditional healing plants are often the beginning of scientific research in addressing health problems. And so it is with finding an answer for skin cancer for Australians according to an article in Courier Mail QWeekend magazine 20-21 November 2010.

We have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world with 1,850 deaths each year (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2010). Predictions are that at least two in three Australians will develop skin cancer by age 70. So it is fitting that an Australian biochemist, Dr Jim Aylward, who received his PhD in 1975 at Monash University, should be the one to come up with a solution.

During Christmas holidays in 1980 Dr Jim Aylward was shown a newspaper article by his mother, about a weed that had long been used as a bush remedy for sunspots. The story quoted a Medical Journal of Australia article about a farmer who had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on his chest that disappeared when the farmer self treated his cancer, using sap from a plant known as radium weed.

Scientific research is a lengthy and expensive business, but Jim Alyward’s curiosity was tweaked. He wondered how the weed had worked, and how active it might be against other cancers. In 1981 he planted some radium weed, a common weed across Australia and New Zealand, on his father’s Sunshine Coast property. And so his pet project began, on the side, while working for CSIRO in Brisbane.

In 1997 he finally took some diluted sap to professor Peter Parsons at the Qld Institute of Medical Research who was to test this on human melanoma cells. Weeks later Jim was excitedly told it was turning melanoma cells back to the appearance of normal cells. He was ecstatic.

Aylward continued to work on the milky sap to isolate the ingredient in the weed called ingenol mebutate, which he found was “active against every sort of cancer tested, not just melanoma.” Using his own money and with backing from small investors, he came close to broke several times over the years. But he was persistent, and eventually lucky. In September 2009, LEO Pharma, a Danish multinational company, bought the process for US$287.5 million. The work he had begun in 1981 had finally paid off.

The cream Dr Jim Aylward developed from radium weed sap is likely to be on the Australian market by 2012. Just one application per day for two days he says, will make a sunspot disappear though he warns against self-treating at this stage.

“Radium weed will help conquer skin cancer,” he says, and there’s no telling what other cures are contained in the plants all around us.

Don’t you love it when “old wives” and “bush remedies” and “traditional cures” are vindicated?

Hay Fever – Food Allergy In Disguise

Here is a novel idea, for some, and just common sense for others. A professor tells us if you have food allergies or sensitivities, when you reduce overall stress load on the body, very often the food reactions disappear. Hmmm. How come this works?

Hans Selye was a pioneering endocrinologist who was one of the first to demonstrate the existence of biological stress. He wrote about General Adaptation Syndrome which showed that early stages of disease produced similar symptoms, involving adrenals, thymus, and digestive system, even though the diseases were different. Later Selye wrote of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis as the body’s coping program. (more on that another time)

He noted there were three stages that lead to disease:

First is the alarm reaction. Your system puts up a fight to defend itself from the stress reaction caused by physical or emotional triggers. You breathe faster, your heart pumps harder, blood pressure goes up, digestions cuts out.

Second stage is resistance. With no relief you continue to resist the stress and keep up with daily functioning. Your immune system keeps defending while you keep on with life demands. You adapt to working under the stress load. It becomes your “norm”. You just keep on keeping on without looking at how to reduce the stress.

Third stage is exhaustion. You run out of steam, don’t have enough energy to fight and work at the same time, and the last straw results in a mental, emotional and/or health breakdown.

This is a common pattern leading to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and is associated with conditions like hay fever and asthma.

Hay Fever is often worse at certain times when grasses are producing pollen and being spread by winds or even gentle breezes. If you are plagued by hay fever in the spring for instance, Professor Keith Scott-Mumby says, “Stop eating grass.”

“Now hang on. I don’t eat grass,” you might say. Well you may not eat your lawn grass, but wheat, corn, oatmeal, rice and rye are all part of the grass family. You may often include foods like bread, pasta, corn, polenta, rice or rye bread on a daily basis. If that is the case, then your body has adapted by putting lots of energy into keeping symptoms at bay. If you are already resisting the stress caused by these foods in your system, then the spring conditions can be the last straw that collapses the resistance. Now the symptoms become very obvious, with no ability to adapt and disguise the internal stress.

So it’s not the fault of spring winds and pollen that you now have hay fever with streaming eyes and nose and feel lethargic and muddle headed. It’s the fact that you body has for a long time been resisting the stress of foods your body is sensitive to.

An asthma attack is very similar to seasonal hay fever except it is happening in every season for the sufferer. The body is adapting to functioning, even if poorly, but the last straw can be the final overload of adaption energy and an asthma attack is the result.

Well that’s interesting to know, but what can you do about it? You don’t want to spend the next two or three months in total discomfort and functioning under par for the season or having asthma attacks on a regular basis. Professor Scott-Mumby in his book Diet Wise says to take the grass foods out of your diet, at the very least during the season that highlights the stress and overloads your ability to cope or adapt.

His advice is reduce those foods in all seasons, but at least to definitely cut them out totally during your worst season.

Try it out and find out for yourself what many of his patients have learned from their own personal trials, that hay fever can be food allergy in disguise.

Anna

PS You can use Kinesiology to reduce overall stress load: apply Emotional Stress Release technique, balance meridians to increase energy, muscle test to identify foods that deplete your energy and drop them out for now, identify the foods that regenerate and lift your energy and increase them in your diet – all are a useful steps in reducing food reactions.

Good Digestion is Essential – You Need Hydrochloric Acid in the Stomach

Do you suffer with indigestion, burping, bloating, food sensitivities, low iron levels, other nutritional deficiencies, bacterial overgrowth, yeast infections, weak brittle hair, dry skin and splitting or peeling nails, premature aging, low energy, poor sleep patterns?

What do these symptoms have in common? Where do you start to find the cause behind these symptoms? Well, there are various possibilities to consider when hunting for the cause and choosing a course of action to regain equilibrium. Could be you need Hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Your body does the best it can within the environment you provide for it. The cause for these symptoms could be tracked to one of three key areas. It could be due to long ignored physical damage or overload like muscle strain, poor posture, or an accident causing pain and disability. It could be poor nutritional choices due to busy lifestyle, eating on the run, or picking up take-away-meals on the way home on a regular basis. It could be mental or emotional distress, fretting over mortgage payments, career hiccup, or a relationship breakdown. Problems in any one area of your life will upset the other two primary areas.

Over and Under Production of Stomach Acids
Let me give you some insight on one example of how this list of symptoms could be linked. You could have low stomach acid. Most people think of indigestion being linked to overproduction of digestive acids, but the truth is that it is often the opposite problem. Low hydrochloric acid levels in the stomach will prevent stomach enzymes doing their job, especially splitting proteins into particles called amino acids. These particles are the basic building blocks of all cells and are essential for repair and replacement of worn out cells, and for making important enzymes.

Delivering Minerals Where Needed
Amino acids are also carriers for minerals and without carriers you can easily become mineral deficient. Minerals are electrically charged, being either positive or negative. So is the lining of your small intestine. Now you may be familiar with the concept of two positively charged particles repelling each other and the same repelling result with two negatively charged particles. And you may know that positive and negative particles will stick to each other.

Apply this to what happens in your small intestine. Magnetically, minerals may be repelled by the small intestine linings and never get to the openings to enter the blood stream. Or minerals may be attracted to the linings and stay stuck to them. Either way minerals may not pass through to your blood stream to be delivered to your cells.

This is where amino acids come in. They are carriers of minerals, neutralizing the charge to allow the minerals passage through the small intestine wall openings, into your blood stream, on their way to where they are needed in your body. Protein foods are split by enzymes into amino acids in the stomach, only in the presence of hydrochloric acid, so low stomach acids will prevent enzymes doing their job, resulting in reduced building blocks for repair and poor availability of minerals to provide the spark for action in the body.

High Stomach Acid is Essential Signal to Pancreas
Low stomach acid fails to signal pancreas to produce alkalizing juices and specific enzymes for the next stage of digestion in the duodenum, where protein, fats and carbohydrate digestion is completed for easy assimilation. Thus availability of nutritional components for internal functions is further reduced.

If you are not digesting correctly you are not extracting nutrients from the food you eat to nourish, repair and replace cells in your body. Your body is declining and so is your energy production.

What’s Age Got To Do With It?
By age 35 your stomach’s digestive juice production has already reduced, and by age 50 this is likely to be much lower again, often less than 50% compared with your age 20 levels. So what do many folk do? As digestion slows many people, knowingly or unknowingly, eat more of what is easy and quick and requires less digestion, like carbohydrates and simple sugars.

Trouble is, a sugar hit can lift energy for 20 to 30 minutes, but you can’t repair cells with sugar, so rate of cell wear and tear starts to exceed repair. You are now aging with skin sagging as collagen and elastin is not replaced efficiently – they are made from protein. Muscles will be cannibalized for their protein to keep vital organ cell function supported. Joints unable to replace worn tissues will become painful and swollen.

Does that sound familiar? Check out who is living on toast and jam and a cup of tea. Or breakfast cereal with sugar. There are no cell building materials in those.

Efficient Stomach Function
The stomach must produce hydrochloric acid (Hcl) to dissolve your food and to allow digestive enzymes to do their job of splitting food chains into separate particles for delivery to cells.

Food Allergies
With low hydrochloric acid (Hcl) in the stomach not only are you starving your cells of needed proteins, minerals, vitamins, and essential fats, but partially digested foods that pass through into the blood stream will set off the immune system alarm. These partially digested particles are not recognized as nutrients as they can’t be absorbed into cells, so they are treated as foreign invaders to be destroyed. Now the scene is set for your body to treat food as an enemy. Many food allergies stem from inability to digest food effectively in the first place.

Hydrochloric Acid Destroys Bacteria on Raw Foods
A further problem that stems from low acid in stomach is it does not destroy unfriendly bacteria that is on your salad foods, or eaten with dirty hands or cutlery, or from bacteria laden chopping boards. Your stomach acids are essential to destroy bacteria that comes in with your foods.

Candida
And further still, poor stomach acid sets the scene for wrong ph in your intestinal track. This favours the increase of unfriendly bacteria like candida in your small intestine that then overwhelms your friendly bacteria such as lacto bacillus.

Leaky Gut
All of this leads to “leaky gut syndrome” as the repair of intestinal wall gets further and further behind. Now more and more partially digested food leaks into your blood steam. You are now often bloated, feeling uncomfortable, always tired, can’t think straight and are emotionally touchy.

Joints
Wear and tear of joints can’t be repaired without nutrients so now there is joint inflammation. Skin repair is poor so becomes susceptible to irritation, dryness, flaking and rosacea. Hair becomes brittle. You’re looking older and feeling it too.

Is this story grim enough for you to take note? What can you do to improve digestion?

It takes a lot of energy to digest your food effectively and the catch 22 is that inefficient digestion reduces energy. This can be a spiral down over the years with more and more symptoms building up progressively. You need hydrochloric acid in the stomach to provide essential nutrients for function and building blocks for new cells and for running repairs.

How to improve your hydrochloric acid levels so you can lift energy from food sources and other energy sources I’ll cover in another newsletter.

Women’s Health Update

Extracts from GNLD Newsletter article by
Anjana Srivastava, International Vice President Product, Science & Technology

Women are inherently different from men – the physical, physiological as well as hormonal differences result in distinct nutritional needs for men and women. As a result, certain health conditions disproportionately impact women.

For example:
– 75% of autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes and others occur in women.
– heart disease kills more women than men
– women under the age of 50 are twice as likely to have a fatal heart attack then men
– heart disease is six times more likely to kill women than breast cancer
– women also metabolize certain drugs differently

More Research and Insights
The latest scientific discoveries have reinforced some of the previously existing knowledge about women’s health, brought new insights and opened new doors to maximize optimal wellness for the body and mind. It is up to us to use this knowledge to enhance our health.

For most of us, nutrition is the single strongest tool for cardiovascular disease prevention. Minimizing exposure to “bad” food choices and maximizing the presence of “good” ones is a prudent strategy for women looking for cardio protection. For example, the benefits of omega-3s in cardiovascular health are well documented by many studies.

Most recently, results published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest
that increased levels of omega-3s could potentially reduce a woman’s risk of heart
failure. It found that even one portion of omega-3 rich fatty fish per week could reduce the risk of developing heart failure by almost 30% compared with women who ate no fatty fish.

On February 15, 2011, the American Heart Association presented new guidelines for
women’s heart disease risk. Scheduled for publication in the journal Circulation, these new guidelines are based on years of research that now clearly links a woman’s heart disease risk with pregnancy complications such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes or pregnancy-induced hypertension. These pregnancy-related events, added to the known risk factors of poor diet, lack of exercise, and being overweight or obese, point to a woman’s increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Whole foods and Their Bioactive Nutrients Are Keys to Heart Health
Newly published dietary recommendations from Dr. Louise Chang (Board Certified Internal Medicine, graduate of Stanford and New York Medical College) medical editor for WebMD, focuses on “24 Foods that can save your heart.” Particularly important to women, these guidelines focus on key food groups and highlight the specific nutrients or groups of nutrients that provide the benefit.

So, take charge! Take control of your and your family’s wellness; and spread the word about health and nutrition. We can all help create a healthier world for our selves and our families to thrive.

Additional Note: I have personally used GNLD whole food supplements for over 25 years and rely on them to fill the gaps in the nutrient deficient “fresh” foods available in supermarkets of today.

These foods are generally mass produced in soils that are known to be depleted and have been “enriched” with fertilizers that focus on what will make the food grow fast, look good and last on the supermarket shelves. The nutritional content of these foods is way below that grown on soils that are enriched with home made compost, devoid of any pesticides and herbicides.

Mass produced food has its pluses and minuses. The plus is we can feed more people more easily. The minus is the health of people eating this food is compromised by the reduced nutritional levels in the foods they eat daily. Bottom line is many people are way below their optimal health because their foods are below optimal nutrient composition in the first place.

I intend to stay fit and healthy till the day I drop. So that means I exercise, I choose what I eat with preference given to health rather than to loading up with sugars and such, and I ensure I address stresses in my life regularly.

I have seen people’s health turn around when they supply their body with quality food sourced supplements, balance their meridian energy and reduce their stress levels with Kinesiology. Contact me if you want to boost your energy and wellness with reliable food supplements, energy balancing, or both.

Further Note: I will run a Food and Supplement Testing Mini Workshop after Easter on Saturday 14th May. You will discover which foods your body is reacting to, which ones are creating bloating, or nausea, or inflammation in your intestinal tract, leading to aches and pains in joints and muscles.

Kinesiology muscle response testing indicates the foods that lift your energy, those that drops your energy, and the ones that maintain your energy.

This can also be applied to discover which foods are increasing or maintaining your excess body weight, and which foods will help promote muscle mass and reduce your fat stores.

Self Care as a Ritual and Routine

If basics of self-care had been taught in school, as part of something important for you to know, where would your health, emotional resilience and wellbeing be today? Self care as a ritual and routine is a basic preparation for life as an independent, healthy, and self-aware adult. Taking care of wellness is a valuable habit to cultivate early.

Can self-care be turned into a healthy habit? Yes it can. Let me show you how.

The basics for wellness I value include nutritional understanding for energy and health, physical activities for strength and co-ordination, social engagement for connectedness and communication, stress reduction strategies for tough times, learning enhancement techniques for every day, insight on personality styles and preferences for communication, and the concept of balance self to self, self to others and others to self. These are some of the basics for preparing to be respectful of self and others and be self sustaining and productive in personal and community life.

One of the pressing issues of our times is the major increase of unwell people in our “advanced” nations and the drain that is on each unwell person and on their family and carers. And I’m not talking about just the elderly. From babies to toddlers, children, teenagers, young adults, to middle age and mature age, all are exhibiting increased rates of health problems from obesity, to food allergies, to learning difficulties, to depression, to common multiple degenerative diseases. And it’s not simply genetics to blame for this.

Epigenetics – We now know we have power over our genes so we are not stuck with what we inherit. Science is showing how we ourselves are each influencing which genetic programs and predispositions in our inherited blueprint we turn on or turn off. That’s wonderful. It means we can determine which weakness we trigger and undermine and which strengths we reinforce. You just need awareness, knowledge and willingness to action what we learn to create long term good health.

How do you exert your influence on your genes?
You switch genes on and off according to the internal environment you create within each cell, tissue, organ, structure and function in our body.

And how do you create that internal environment?
Daily, hourly, minute-by-minute, you change your biochemistry and internal cellular environment by:
– what you think, be it positive or negative
– by what you feel, uplifting or depressing
– by what you eat and drink, nourishing or depleting
– by what you do physically, enhance flexibility and strength or let them fade
– by the company you keep and the role models and support system around you.

So it’s time to change what you can, learn to listen to your body, fuel it well, enhance its physical capacity, connect with others for mutual support and spiritual uplift, to engage your essential nature and true potential. In other words, be holistic in your self-care.

New Era in Health Care – We have begun a new era of integrative medicine, where you don’t have to give up the advances of biomedicine to benefit from natural medicine and health enhancing strategies. Its not either or, but both, to gain the best of all that is available to us today.

Conventional medicine has focused on drugs and surgery, both of which in life threatening emergencies bring people through the crisis. But that seems to account for about 15% of what our medical system attends to. Once through the crisis, what comes next? Rebuilding health is not just getting going again, but getting healthy so you are not susceptible to further breakdown. Scientific researchers estimate that 85% of what ails people is created by stress of one kind or another, and drugs and surgery are not the solution for that.

Holistic medicine, holistic healing, holistic therapies honour the whole human being, the physical, biochemical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, the interconnected whole being.

To consciously explore and learn strategies, progressively at each stage of our lives, for each of these areas, will take us a long way to a lifetime of wellness. Our body and brain are actually built for it. This learning goes way beyond academic ability that is the focus of our schooling at present as preparation for adult life. This is about basic holistic self-care and interaction with those in our environment throughout our lifetime.

Science based medicine has been in conflict with “soul medicine” and our makeup beyond the physical body, the things in life that touch our heart and soul and how they influence our wellness. Now science is gradually revealing principles and mechanisms behind the successes in natural therapies and spiritual healing, and in turn, natural therapies and soul medicine are increasingly turning to science to identify the most reliable and consistent methods for healing to occur. Energy healers have even been included during heart transplant surgery to give the best start for the patient post operatively. That’s amazing!

We Are Naturally Programmed To Heal – We are each set up for self-healing and repair of wear and tear. The trick is to create the right internal environment for the healing to happen.

As humans we respond to the rhythm of day and night, to daily rituals and routines that match energy shifts during the day. Babies respond to comforting rituals and thrive best when they eat, play, rest and sleep in a rhythm, a pattern. Mothers soon discover the rhythm best suited to their baby and can work with their baby’s energy shifts so their baby doesn’t become over tired or over hungry and fretful.

Adults too respond to rhythm, patterns and routines that add structure, sanity and simplicity to our chaotic lives and avoid being over tired or over hungry and fretful (read stressed). Familiarity doesn’t necessarily breed contempt, but can bring a reassuring, calming and warm sense of security, that can buffer stress.

Some of the simple everyday things we do, like taking a shower, getting dressed for the day, making the bed, preparing breakfast and eating, to begin our day, is a routine, and when done mindfully, with respect for our body, is a sacred ritual.

Following a familiar rhythm is energy saving, and frees your mind of the need for decision making. This allows you to take care of your body, stay in receptive alpha brain rhythms, let your creativity roam, and gradually move into beta brain rhythm for active mode by the time you leave for work.

Now that can work if you are on your own or in an established and steady relationship. Children add a totally different dimension to the mix, yet having a morning ritual with children too can be a stress saver. As part of bed-time stories you can gently and playfully talk through the morning ritual with your child, getting them to identify the steps in order, so they are prepared in advance, build expectations, and learn to say hello to the day in a positive way. This ritual can help them and you to avoid a chaotic start to the day, especially if there are time schedules to be met.

For balance we also need unstructured time, when we can pursue our whim, dither about, just enjoy what is, without needing to achieve anything in particular, to discover what pleases and entertains us, to spend joyful exchange with friends and family. Either all structured time and motion, or all unstructured will generate their own problems.

Creating rhythms and routines is about establishing self discipline to gain the best of your day, to have a time for doing what is required, achieving what is planned, as well as taking a breather and reconnecting with self outside of what we do. It is all too easy to get lost in our roles and tasks and lose track of the inner self. Daily “self” time helps to identify and align your inner and outer worlds, what you want to experience and express of who you are and your values from your inner world with your activity in the outer world.

Self-care as rituals and routines can honour you as a whole human being and ensure you create balance in your life. Take the opportunity to learn the skills and build knowledge in each area, physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual, so you can switch on your genetic programs that support wellness.

Sign up for Touch For Health workshop on 19 & 20 February and you’ll be surprised how much you can learn in a weekend that gives you power over your genes and your wellbeing, that gives simple, easy self care rituals and routines . email me: anna@annamcrobert.com

Integrative Medicine for Holistic Health

Scientists of various specialized areas are teaming up, putting together their research work and discovering the wholistic nature of human function.

Well, some scientists have been researching and confirming this for decades. It’s just that their own peers refused to consider or acknowledge anything that was different from their own original training and they would actively denounce, ridicule, undermine and refute anything new.

Resistance to anything new is not unusual. Medical specialists, natural therapy practitioners, and every day folk are no different in that regard. We, each of us, hold dear various beliefs, ideals, knowledge, strategies in whatever field we specialize in, be that on the home front or in the business world, or in government, or in health care. So it’s not about pointing the finger at only one area of expertise or knowledge. Any challenge to existing beliefs, long held “truths”, is generally defended – at first. Change can take time to be accepted.

Every one of us in our endeavours is likely to defend our long held “truth”, the beliefs and concepts on which we have based our decisions and behaviour, rather than face the reality and admit that we may have been blind or been barking up the wrong tree. So resistance to new insights is common in every field, particularly among peers and colleagues.

But the evidence is mounting in the medical field that drugs and surgery are not the best or only way to keep the majority of people functional, that various therapies are as effective and often more so in helping people recover from illness, and without the side effects. Dogmas are collapsing under the weight of gathering evidence and a more holistic approach is growing and is likely to become the norm in future.

According to Nathan S. Kline, MD, MA, FACP, Director of Research Facility in Rockland State Hospital, Orangeburg, New York, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, New York back in 1962, “Time and again in the short history of science, ideas that were “conclusively disproved” have later been recognised to be not only correct, but of stunning significance.”

Psychoneuroimmunology (psycho/neruo/immunology) is a term coined in recent times that acknowledges the collaboration of psychologists, neurologists and immunologists in terms of how to help people deal with ill health of one kind or another. This collaboration recognizes that how we feel emotionally impacts on our brain and the whole nervous system and can directly compromise the ability of our immune system to protect us and keep us well.

The days of ignoring, criticizing, belittling or laughing at anything that didn’t fit existing medical dogma are numbered as attitudes shift with the accumulating research that can’t be refuted.

Medical and complimentary and alternate therapies have been uniting under the term of integrative medicine, even though there are detractors who are still fighting this union of traditional knowledge and modern discoveries for handling health issues.

Other new collaborations are forming, even including those from outside the body function arena. NASA research on the ability of plants to detoxify our internal building environments and provide essential oxygen for human wellbeing is one combination of health research and plant and environment research coming together. (see article Plants are Essential for Human Life posted December 2010)

Another less publicized combination is doctors, scientists and electricians. All medical training acknowledges we humans are electro magnetic beings. That means we generate electricity, have electric circuits with positive and negative polarities, generate an amplitude or voltage between the positive and negative.

Without this electrical activity inside and outside every cell no activity or human life as we know it is possible.
How has this essential element been ignored for so long when looking for ways to heal the body? Focus has been on biochemical aspects and surgical interventions with little consideration to the body-electric activities or the mind till recent times.

Epigenetics has clearly shown that every thought can change your brain activity and also triggers biochemical changes and body responses that can switch genetic programs on or off. Constant thoughts of fear, anxiety or any other stress can become a thought habit that plays out in the brain and in the body simultaneously. This includes changing the body’s biochemistry and altering energy distribution and use. There is no separating the mental, emotional, biochemical, physical or energy contributions to the whole. They work together, simultaneously, in concert. A change in one area will trigger a cascade of changes in all other areas.

Health and Safety standards in the work place, from factories, to office blocks, to mining and gas harvesting, are set in accord with medical and scientific standards to ensure the environment is safe for workers. This concern is in the outer world while still ignoring or under rating pollution of the body’s internal cells in the majority of medical patient that can be just as dangerous in the individual body.

Our internal environment needs to be kept safe too. Instead of just prescribing drugs to mask the cause of headaches or upset stomach, or itchy skin, the body may need internal cleaning up, the removal of toxic build up, change of pH through diet or lifestyle, water to hydrate and dilute waste for elimination, a shift of habitual stressful thoughts, all stock in trade for natural therapy approaches, including Kinesiology.

So what about the internal and external electromagnetic environments? These are equally important, perhaps paramount.

“Grounding” is being validated by the latest information from research projects. Every house with electrical wires for lighting and power is by law automatically earthed, meaning it has a wire that is connected to the Earth for grounding or discharging of any excess electrical charge, to avoid electrocution.

As you are also electro magnetic, how do you get earthed? In the January Newsletter article, Earthing Reduces Pain and Increases Health, I talked about taking your shoes off and walking, sitting or standing on the damp grass or wet sand. This effectively discharges into the Earth the stress charge that builds up in your body during the day from normal work, time schedules and family life. Being barefoot also allows you to absorb the Earth’s negative ions that support wellness. And you can also de-stress and rebalance your electrical energy in other ways.

The Chinese meridian and acupuncture system specifically addresses the need to rebalance energy flow to regain and maintain health.

Working as a Kinesiologist I regularly draw on the Chinese Five Element system to discover which is the main under active system in the body and which function is holding on up the energy flow and preventing an automatic rebalancing. Meridians are energy pathways that are electrical in nature and respond to positive and negative polarity input.

Kinesiology combines elements from both the Chinese acupuncture system and the modern medical knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how the body works. George Goodheart, a chiropractor, created Applied Kinesiology and his student and colleague, John Thie, put together the basic elements of this work for lay people to use as maintenance and first aid, and called the system Touch For Health.

Touch For Health kinesiology provides everyday people with safe and simple ways to discharge stress, rebalance meridian energy flow, check which food will support and maintain this balance biochemically, activate clearance of lymphatic waste, improve blood circulation, support organ activity, enhance brain function for learning, reduce pain and improve posture and co-ordination.

This Kinesiology health care system was John Thie’s gift to his patients and to all people who seek to regain and maintain wellness and enhance relationships and daily life. Touch For Health puts power and knowledge into the hands of each person so they can take charge of their own wellness, to educate themselves about how to be healthy and whole, to recognize what the body is communicating through energy shifts and muscle response change.

Any persistent meridian imbalances act as an early warning system that indicates, possibly years in advance, which functions are energy starved or overloaded and will physically deteriorate if the energy is not rebalanced. The energy imbalance registers long before tissue breakdown and rebalancing the energy is pro-active preventative health care. It is a way of influencing genetic programs, and escaping the family patterns of health degeneration.

It really is time to learn how to be well rather than wait for symptoms to occur for which a doctor will likely prescribe drugs to silence the body’s cry for help and block awareness that something is malfunctioning and needs help to regain full function again.

Doctors are writing reports and books about the existing medical system.

“The Journal of the American Medical Association has been warning … for over a decade, publishing research showing the dangers of infections, injury and death in American hospitals. … Theses studies rank iatrogenic or doctor-caused illnesses among the largest killers of Americans … Other studies with different criteria, actually find that iatrogenic illnesses are the number one killer.”

“Astonishingly, the U.S. Congress, Office of Technological Assessment, has reported 85% of the drugs now in use have no satisfactory scientific documentation backing them,” according to Norman Shealy, MD, PhD and Dawson Church, PhD. This and much more, along with statistics, they cover in their book Soul Medicine.

Here’s a some more: “Britain’s respected Independent newspaper, in its “Science” section, under the headline, “Glaxo Chief: Our Drugs Do Not Work On Most Patients,” reported that: A senior executive with Britain’s biggest drugs company has admitted that most prescription medicines do not work on most people who take them.”

“Allen Roses, worldwide vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a huge multinational drug company, said fewer that half of the patients prescribed some of the most expensive drugs actually derived any benefit from them.”

Article in the Seattle Times stated, “Millions of people taking drugs that may carry a greater risk than the underlying condition. The treatment, in fact, may make them sick or even kill them.”

It seems like the tables are turning when I also read, “Dr William Nolen, in his book Healing, A Doctor In Search of a Miracle, stated that healers can cure 70% of individuals – a statistic that appears far better than the average drug.”

Science is in the process of validating “healing” with energy, visualization, relaxation techniques, yoga, meditation, prayer, caring touch, acupuncture, chiropractic, diet and numerous other ways. And the results are proving at least as good as drugs and often more effective, and with no side effects.

Earthing Reduces Pain and Increases Health

Question: Earthing, what’s that? What’s Earthing Got To Do With Health?

Answer: More than you might imagine. Just like our planet Earth, your body is mostly water and minerals, and both are excellent conductors of electricity. Electrons allow electricity to flow and the Earth’s surface is a great constantly replenishing reservoir of electrons. Electrons are negatively charged.

We all live with and through electrical activity. Your house is electrically wired for power and light, with insulated wires that carry the positive and negative charge, and it is also earthed with a third wire, so that any accidental spilling over charge, like through faulty appliances, doesn’t go through you but is discharged harmlessly into the ground, into the earth – that’s grounding or earthing.

And you and I are electrically wired too. Our nervous system pathways are positively and negatively charged and every cell, tissue, organ communicates electrically. Your brain pathways are all electrical and light up when activated. You actually make enough energy to light up a room. And how are we earthed?

That’s a good question. We build up charge and often have spikes of electrical activity that needs to be released or discharged safely. So we certainly need a way to earth easily and readily. And we have, just that science and medicine have focused on other aspects of our survival and health and virtually dismissed the electrical side of our functioning. Not any more.

“We all live and function electrically on an electrical planet. The movement of nutrients and water into the cells is regulated by electric fields and each type of cell has a frequency range within which it operates. Your heart, brain, nervous system, muscles and immune system are examples of electrical subsystems operating within your bio-electric body. The fact is all of your movements, behaviours and actions are energized by electricity,” from Earthing by Clinton Ober.

I have been reading two books, The Body Electric by Robert O. Becker MD and Gary Selden, and Earthing by Clinton Ober, Stephen Sinatra MD and Martin Zucker that go into dept on our understanding of the electrical side of life on this planet and within our bodies. There are also sections in other books on this topic, The Genie in Your Genes by Dawson Church PhD, The Promise of Energy Psychology by David Feinstein, Donna Eden and Gary Craig, and Soul Medicine by Norman Shealy MD, PhD, and Dawson Church PhD to name others I am currently reading. (guess what I got myself for Christmas reading?)

Scientists back in the 1800s first measured the Earth’s subtle ground currents at different places around the world, using words like “tranquil” and “quiet” to describe them. Present day science refers to them as “telluric currents” and recognizes them as part of a larger system – called the “global electrical circuits”…
… the electrical potential present on the Earth’s surface rises and falls according to the position of the sun. The intensity is more positive and energetic during the day, in support of your daily activities from wake up to shut down, and less positive and energetic during nighttime hours promoting zzzzzzzzs
.” You will recognize this as our sleep-wake cycle, the circadian rhythm. This rhythm influences many hormonal patterns that can go haywire when we don’t sleep well.

If opposite charges build up, like those between storm clouds and the Earth’s surface, lightening is the result, sudden, hot, loud, electrical discharge of energy. And the charge looks for the best conductive, therefore not insulated, passage to reach Earth.

This also occurs in the body. The way electric energy flows or is blocked through your body is a predictor of where your physical body will breakdown, which disease you will manifest, if the flow is not improved. This is validated by research. All along this has been the basis of Chinese Medicine and its Western cousin Kinesiology, that balancing energy flow will normalize function and prevent disease and tissue breakdown. It will also aid healing and regeneration.

Regularly discharging the buildup would prevent overload with less physical and emotional pain, less deterioration and less wear and tear on our body systems and on our relationships too. Do you want to know how to earth the charge you build up in your body?

Can you cope with a simple solution? This is important. You and I know how easily we get charged up about hot issues or specific people and their attitudes. So what I am about to tell you is important. Please give it due consideration. Dont just listen to me. Check it out for yourself. I trust you to be wise, to recognize what is true for you, and to implement what gives you peace and balance. Let me share some valuable knowledge now becoming more available.

There are many wisdoms and insights passed on to all of us from our forebears. Science is now investigating another instinctive solution that was a part of everyday life for our ancestors. Results have been noted and recorded by people for eons, but this kind of anecdotal reporting is not good enough for science. So scientists have to do things the way scientists do. And it is quite amazing the consistent positive results that are now being monitored and measured with modern medical devices. Its just that I don’t wait 10, 20, 30 years for science to prove things their way when it makes sense to me right now. I want benefits now. How about you?

Symptoms of not discharging your built up energy include pain, especially in joints and muscles, poor digestion, trouble getting restful sleep, heart and lung problems, inflammation of various tissues. One thing that the medical world agrees on is that inflammation is part of all degenerative diseases. So how do we deal with inflammation? Anti-inflammatory medications are commonly prescribed even though they have unhealthy side effects. So what is inflammation all about?

Actually inflammation is part of healing. The interesting thing is that your healthy tissues are negatively charged and when damage occurs the damaged tissues change polarity to positively charged so the immune response can destroy the damage structures. Once the tissue is cleaned up, then the area switches polarity again and becomes negatively charged so that the regenerative healing can begin. Without the polarity change you don’t heal. Our ability to change polarity is crucial to healing.

Yet much of what happens in our world, inside our body and outside in our living and working environments, creates the wrong polarity for healing. Can we earth and discharge excess energy? Can we increase healing polarity?

Yes we can and do, every time we put out bare feet on the Earth, especially on damp grass or damp earth or wet sand at the beach. Water is a good conductor or electricity. With bare feet on the ground we are connected directly to the planet. We are grounded. We discharge the accumulated positive charge into the ground and in return we absorb the negative electrons of the earth’s surface. Take the time for this exchange to occur. And the result of that are? Great calming, pain reduction, symptoms reduction, peace.

To begin with, constant stress and worry of one kind or another keeps our body in fight or flight mode, which prevents effective or complete healing. Chemicals in the air that we breathe in overload our body’s ability to keep up with internal cleansing. Electromagnetic emissions of all the electrical wiring in our buildings and all the appliances, equipment and electronics in every room play havoc with our own body electric wiring. Some people are more sensitive to this interference so experience exhaustion, confusion, headaches, other aches and pains, with inability to recover readily.

John Gray, author of Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, first discovered Earthing when he was in India studying meditation with a master. Being a westerner, not accustomed to sitting in quietude for lengths of time, it was suggested to him he sit on a metal wired pad placed directly on the earth and that would help his body settle and allow him to meditate more deeply. The wired meditation pad was the earthing wire, something John did not put together with the results he achieved by doing this, till discussing earthing or grounding years later.

Now sitting on the Earth to be more peaceful is not new. We evolved from times when all our ancestors sat on the Earth, walked on the Earth, played on the Earth, slept on the Earth. They didn’t know that the Earth is our greatest resource of negative electrons that constantly replenished our body electrons to counter free radicals that can be damaging and is associated with inflammation. To them it was just natural to live in touch with mother Earth.

We’ve lost that. Today we are insulated from this constantly available resource for discharging the buildup of charge associated with the stress of the day, stress from the noise of shopping centers, air-conditioned buildings, hard surfaces in buildings, with electrical interference of all the appliances and equipment and computers that dominate our homes and offices.

For healing to happen, including our repair of daily wear and tear, we need the right environment internally. Research on epigenetics clearly shows we can change our genetic predisposition to any illness or disease by changing our internal environment. Discharging the energy of tension, worry, fear, disharmony, deadlines, criticism, failure, on a daily basis makes an enormous difference to your wellbeing.

Just focusing on the electrical side of our internal environment for now, with earthing, can immediately change the cell activity. Supporting this with directed thoughts and nutrition plus water and deep breathing will take you a long way to re-establishing balanced function in your body and enhance the influence of any natural therapy you are receiving.

So how do you discharge and earth yourself? Place your bare your feet on the ground. Stand, sit, walk, for a minimum of 20 minutes, and the magic begins.

Blood samples of subjects taken before grounding showed an inflammatory pattern of clumping of cells. After grounding for 40 minutes the blood samples showed normal healthy cell separation within the fluids of the blood. In future articles I will give you further research results and how to ground yourself while at your computer and even while sleeping. If you cant wait get the book Earthing by Clinton Ober, Stephen Sinatra MD, and Martin Zucker.

In the meantime, take your shoes off in your yard or in the park, and walk on the damp grass morning and night, with your kids, your spouse, your dog. And watch how your attitude, your health and your relationships improve.
Muscle testing can identify how long you need to ground or earth yourself and how often to gain improvements with a specific physical or emotional issue.
Happy earthing
Cheers

Stay Young Longer, Even Reverse Aging

How old do you feel? How old is your body functioning at? Is it all down hill from here? Is it possible to stay young longer and reverse aging? What is your belief about aging? Get ready to revise that belief. Science is providing evidence we can stay young longer and even reverse the aging process. Our life span is getting longer. 1000 years ago it was 30 years, 100 years ago it was 50 years, today its 80 years.

Aging is a process that goes on inside the cells of our body (and also inside our head – I’ll tell you about that another time). Some cells replicate in three days and others in months or years. Some scientists believe, based on their studies, that cells have a finite number of times they can replicate themselves in each of our organs and tissues.

That’s a bit alarming. Does that mean if I enthusiastically exfoliate my face, arms and legs often I am potentially speeding up the use of my quota of replications for skin cells? Am I speeding up creating cells that can’t replicate any more – and therefore just die when they can no longer repair the wear and tear? I think I need to know a bit more about this.

Elizabeth Blackburn, molecular biologist and researcher at University of California San Francisco, grew up in Tasmania. Her fascination as a child about how things work eventually led her, as an adult, to exploring what is at the end of DNA strands inside our cells. That’s been quite a journey. Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider and Jack Szostak were awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.

Now the impact of this discovery is far reaching, increasing our understanding of how our cells age and how we can influence that aging process, especially in terms of degenerative diseases. And I don’t know about you, but I intend to age as gracefully and slowly and as youthfully as possible, and remain healthy and active till the end. I’m not interested in getting old fast. So if you’re with me on that, let me include you in what this all means.

Each cell has a nucleus with 23 pairs of chromosomes (strands of DNA). At the ends of these strands are caps called telomeres. Each time a cell replicates the telomeres shorten, till eventually over the years they become too short, and as a result the cell cant replicate any more. By now the person is in “old age.”

These cells with telomeres too short will eventually die without any more offspring to continue that tissue or organ. You may be aging your organs at different rates, some at old age while others still a middle age. The shortening of telomeres in various organs and tissues is a predictor of degenerative disease and is one of the known biomarkers of aging.

But guess what? It was discovered that our reproductive cells don’t follow this pattern of shortening telomeres in each successive generation of offspring. An enzyme called telomerase repairs and lengthens the telomere in your reproductive systems chromosomes, so they are always the same length. This means they do not age. They stay perpetually young. The purpose of course is to ensure as a species we survive.

All other cells shorten their telomeres each time they replicate themselves, so they are always getting closer to the day that this replication will no longer be possible. It’s just part of aging we’re told, so there’s nothing you can do about it. But many scientists agree, we can slow the rate of needing to replace cells and increase the rate of repair and replacement. That keeps us younger longer. Now we’re talking anti-aging.

Research measuring telomeres in men and women with degenerative diseases like prostate cancer, heart disease, lung insufficiency, and highly stressed carers of disabled family members, and those with perceived high stresses, had their telomeres measured before and after undertaking a supervised program of lifestyle changes.

The participants took part in guided relaxation sessions, exercised regularly, and ate antioxidant rich diets for three months. The resulting readings showed the telomeres had actually lengthened. This is not just slowing down aging but actual rejuvenation, cells reverting to a more juvenile condition, reversing aging. You can function at a younger level.

One example is a participant, a driven, ambition type male in the research group, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His diagnosis caused him to rethink his behaviour and relentless drive. At the end of partaking in the three-month program his telomere reading showed an increase in length of 30%. His prostate cancer had disappeared and he was feeling very fit and healthy.

Another participant, a 65 year old woman, caring for her disabled brother and her mother with dementia, was under constant stress attending to them both without any respite. This kind of stress shows as a faster shortening of telomeres and in her case indicated her cells were about 17years older than her chronological age. After attending the lifestyle-enhancing program with relaxation, exercise and diet changes, plus taking up painting, she also showed great improvement in health and wellbeing and her telomeres lengthened, in spite of still caring for her brother and mother as usual.

Scientists now know that shortening of telomeres in cells is not set in stone. This is what epigenetics is about. Lifestyle changes can and do change expressions of your genes. Your lifestyle can over-ride genetic predispositions, and even reverse the aging process. Tracking the biomarkers of aging provides the proof that cells are working as they did in more youthful times.

So we CAN get younger. How much younger can we get? 10 to 30 years seems possible. So it is entirely up to us how fast we age and decline.
The more we take care of our body with:
– life supporting diet, including high antioxidants, proteins, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, plus water
– exercise for cardiovascular and muscle fitness
– reduce stress and learn to relax or meditate,
the younger we can become in terms of telomere length and cell relication.

How old would you like your body to be by this time next year? Twelve months to reverse existing signs and biomarkers of aging by living a healthy lifestyle – sounds worthwhile and do-able to me. How about to you? Do you think it is something you can do? Do you believe it is something you can do? Can you run your own experimental program on yourself? Why not? Let me get you started.

To Reverse Markers Of Aging:
Take a note of:
– your current weight, current body measurements, current fitness level
– your present diet, breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon tea/coffee
– how much water you drink
– aches and pains, range of movement and flexibility
– any health issues
– your current beliefs, expectations, self-image

These are your pre-checks, your starting point from which to compare monthly, and finally at the end of 12 months.
Other pre-checks:
– have a personal trainer do the fitness tests for you and advise on a program
– have your doctor do general blood and medical tests
– have someone check your diet and give some healthy suggestions

Now plan it out:
– daily walking, swimming, aerobics, weights, start slow and gradually increase
– consider adding supplements and herbs
– take up meditation, yoga, or relaxation practice
– start singing or painting or something creative and fun
– arrange monthly massage or kinesiology energy balances
– keep track of your actions and changes
– celebrate the improvements
This is your personal research on reversing the aging process.

If it all seems too much or you want further ideas or support, encouragement, motivation, guidance, then make an appointment and I will help you create your personal program – for reversing aging and regaining youthful health and vital energy.
Cheers

PS: There are other biomarkers of aging that I can tell you about another time. The good thing is that those markers also respond to the same lifestyle and attitude changes that your telomeres do.

Snippet – Protect Your Space

Indoor plants can protect your health by purifying the air in your office and home (see article Plants Are Essential To Human Life in this Newsletter).

The NASA study indicates that for every 100 square feet of living space a healthy leafy pot plant, with the top of the soil uncovered, will do its job of filtering the toxic chemicals in the room. It could be that with several people working in the same room all day you may need more plants. Philodendron, spider plant and golden pothos were named as most effective in removing formaldehyde molecules.
