Snippet – Where will our oxygen come from?

It’s not only our trees and forests that purify the air on this planet. “A report in international journal Science this year, that pulled together leading research, showed that greenhouse gases are driving irreversible changes in the functions of our oceans. … Oceans are the planet’s “heart and lungs”, producing half the oxygen we breathe and absorbing 30 per cent of human generated carbon dioxide. The damage we’re seeing is akin to the ocean being made to smoke three packets of cigarettes a day… “

I find it scary that we chop down trees that absorb our carbon dioxide and provide oxygen, put more people in smaller spaces and in high-rise dwellings with no gardens, and now the oceans too are less able to do their part to keep our environment suitable for human habitation. Oops! Is it too late to change this?
